For Those In The Know

Question for the breast feeding moms:

When the sweet one is/was latched, does/did anyone else feel like there is/was a disco going on in the active boob? You know, with 70s strobe lights and everything?

Hi Lollie!

I had sensations like that with my first baby. My letdown was constant and the poor guy was just gulping away, trying to take it all in!

I did also have problems with bleeding nipples (I was aka "The Human Pacifier). I would soak a teabag of green tea, let it cool and place that on the nipple and that helped a lot. I don't know if that answers your question or not, but with my first one (with the second and third babies, I never had engorgement, pain, anything...it was wonderful) I had all kinds of weird feelings going on there.

Also, I don't know if you noticed this or not, but when baby would latch on, right away, I would get this insane urge to burst into tears. It subsided after a few seconds but man oh man were those hormones going wild!

Breastfeeding is the best experience second only to childbirth, in my humble opinion. I did a year with each kiddo and went from breast to cup with my daughters.

Congratulations on your new baby! (I lurk here every so often, but am delurking to comment). There were definitely very weird sensations associated with engorgement, let-down, actual nursing, etc. And on the rare occasion when the babies would sleep through normal feeding time, I'd wake up anyway, either engorged, or soaking wet. It totally gets easier and better (and I miss eating the way I did when I was nursing!)
