I Give Up

I'm just not doing it anymore.

Cutting my son's nails has become a nightmare so I'm just not going to do it anymore. I cut him EVERY TIME! I don't know if the clippers are defective, or if I'm just completely blind, but I catch his little fingertips and it makes me feel like a monster.

How do you do it? I'm thinking itty bitty nail file? Chewing them off? I mean my god - I'can't hurt him every four days when his dracula like claws grow out!

Help?

I always tried doing that when the boys were napping. One kid was a very light sleeper, though, so chaos typically ensued. My youngest I could dress up like a girl and put make up on, he sleeps so soundly, so that worked better.

However, I still make my husband help them most often because I got a bleeder once, and my heart still breaks at the memory!

I've never cut my son when cutting his nails. Do you have baby clippers? Also, always aim for not making them as short as you want them, then there's room for error.

I have actually heard of people biting them.

If he's anything like my cats, this is gonna be a two-person job, mininum.

Chewing is not altogether a bad idea. ESPECIALLY after bath when they are soft.

I don't really remember cutting my babes fingers but I do remember someone telling me the after-bath tip. Makes it way easier and you don't have to push down on the clippers hardly at all.

Perhaps a pair of teeny tiny nail scissors?

With some kids you can just kind of peel them off because they aren't that thick yet. And as someone else said do it while K is napping. That typically worked for me!.

Monster you ? Never

Try letting your 4 month old roll off your bed on to a floor. I knew I was going to hell at that moment.

I've heard of people biting them, too. I did it when my boy boy was sleeping b/c when he was tiny he slept like a rock. Now he wakes if someone walks happens to by his room.

I seem to remember my mother trimming my infant brother's nails with a pair of scissors -- it offers more control, I think?
